We were told (and read) that Dallies are often very food orientated, this comes in handy when used alongside training. However, there is a downside. Ellie is not just food oriented, but food obsessed! It doesn't matter what kind of food it is (she has a penchant for curry), if it's in sight of her, she will try to get it.
Much to her frustration, most of our food waste goes down the waste disposal unit, but, even then, she tries her best to thieve it:
This makes for one grumpy Dal when I switch the thing on.
We have had to start crating her when we eat at the table, as it is getting out of hand. She either tries to jump up (I think she expects her own seat), or bites your toes in frustration. So, it's in the crate at every meal now.
Pepper, our previous dog was overweight. It was our fault completely as we used to let her have tit-bits whenever we ate. I don't want this to happen with Ellie, so I keep a strict watch on what she gets to eat. She has two meals a day (dry food mixed with a little warm water) and a frozen Kong filled with peanut butter and dried food in the evening (taken out of her food allowance).
I'm glad she has never been a fussy eater, but, a little restraint wouldn't go amiss
