Well, Ellie's recall is virtually zero! Her off lead walks are wonderful, until it's time to come home. She just will not come when called. I have tried everything, to no avail. It took me half an hour the other day to get her back on lead at Burradon Pit Pond. In hindsight, I shouldn't have let her off there as she has so much space to run around (away) from me.
Les has started using the long lead to work on her recall. I can't use that lead after what happened the last time
I am going to give it a few weeks real training both in the house and on walks to try to get her recall back. I know it's a common problem in doggie adolescence, but, it can be a dangerous one if she continues to ignore us. I have given serious thought to purchasing a remote spray collar. These can be a humane way of dealing with certain behaviors. I am going to give the training a chance first though, as they are incredibly expensive.
On a lighter note, we met two wonderful looking Dalmatians on our walk the other day. The were brother and sister, 4 years old. The boy was black spotted and the girl was a liver spot. It seems that Ellie (and other Dals) just know their own breed when they see it, as they always, without fail, give a Dally hug to one another (having said that, the female got quite dominant with Ellie and tried to mount her!).
They are such a wonderful breed, very unique in both their behavior and looks.
Here is a lovely one of Ellie in 'chill mode'
